Busy Busy Busy

Hi guys! It's been a big finish to the year. Apart from a few slow days around the solar eclipse, the fishing has been awesome - especially in the creeks. Barras and threadies have been plentiful, with some big fat specimens mixed in as well. Although I don't have too many offshore pics, a lot of Spanish mackerel and brassy trevally have been caught - with some massive queenies on the poppers. Not long to go, and the 2012 season will be done and dusted. I have a few short fishing clips from 2012 that will be put up on the site shortly - so keep an eye out!!!!

Heating up

The weather and fishing are both heating up! Offshore has seen good numbers of billfish, tuna, and Spanish mackerel. It has been some of the best September weather I can remeber, with plenty of calm mornings and glass-out afternoons. Creeks have started to come alive with the barra really starting to bite with plenty of little ones around. It is only a matter of time before we start catching some big barra too!

A Bit of Everything

Hi All! The fishing has been fairly consistent in all departments. Conditions along the beaches have been very good  for the fly fisherman. Richard, who is holding the blackspot tusker managed 4 of these in a morning session, as well as hooking a large permit, only to see the hook break on the first run! Offshore has just started to fire up with Spanish mackerel, big queenies, and some nice trout on the bottom. In the creeks, barra are still a little slow although when we have got them to bite we have been catching better than average size fish.

Fresh and salt water

Hi guys! Been a while since the last post. I have been flat out fishing the Upper Wenlock, as well as the salt water surrounding Weipa. The fishing in the creeks has been surprisingly good considering the water temp. Plenty of sooty grunter, saratoga, and barra up in the fresh. Offshore, the pelagics fired up for a couple of weeks with plenty of the usual suspects - Spanish mackeral, queenies and tuna - but a westerly swell has quietened them down for the minute. There are rumours of loads of Spaniards out wide. I will be off to investigate in the coming days and will try to keep you posted. Cheers!!!
