The tides this week were perfect for drain fishing, particularly top water fishing for barra. Anton and James Bouy were here for 3 days, so the plan was hatched to do a day's offshore fishing and 2 days up the creeks chasing barra. Offshore the Spanish mackeral were thick with double and triple hook-ups common. We caught Spanish mackeral on the troll, jigging, and even at one stage casting a baitcaster with a barra lure attached into the middle of the ocean and simply winding back fast!! There were no monster mackeral, with most around the 5 to 7 kilo mark, but still a ton of fun. Up the creeks, the top water fishing provided hours of entertainment, and on some casts the boys would get 3 or four bites per retrieve. There were a few quality fish in the drains with Anton ( father) catching the biggest at 76cm.
